These are institute-based scholarships having two dimensions. The criteria for the IIT Bombay scholarships, i. e.
Private Scholarships, are both merit-based and means-based. The merit criteria hold for students entering their bachelor's degree in engineering and design through high rank in JEE and UCEED, and senior students are considered through their ranking or academic performance. The means criterion puts parental income as the central criterion, and the maximum allowed gross income is Rs. 5 lakh.
This scholarship requires the submission of an income certificate issued by a government revenue officer, such as a tehsildar. If not, the income tax return of the parents needs to be submitted for consideration. Students must perform satisfactorily to benefit from this scholarship. Government Scholarships: These scholarships are of two kinds.
National Scholarships: The national scholarships are offered by the state governments of India for students hailing from their respective states. IIT receives applications forwarded by the state governments, and they are awarded or renewed on an annual basis, with the academic performance of students as the main criterion.
NTS: National Talent Search (NTS) scholarships are awarded during the higher secondary period of education of students, and they are continued both at the Bachelor's and Master's level programmes. Students renew this scholarship by submitting the issued NCERT forms to the Academic section during intake.
