How this JEE Advanced college predictor works
How JoSAA closing ranks work
JoSAA publishes opening and closing ranks after each counselling round for every IIT programme, seat type, gender, and quota. The closing rank is the last rank that got a seat in that combination for that round.
IITs are allocated via JEE Advanced category rank. For NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs use the JEE Main College Predictor instead.
How we compute Safe / Moderate / Ambitious bands
For each institute + programme matching your category, gender, and filters, we look at the final-round closing ranks over the last three years available in our dataset. If your rank is at or better than the best (lowest) of those three, we label it Safe. Between the best and worst of those three is Moderate. Up to 15% above the worst closing rank is Ambitious. Anything beyond that is omitted — we do not show long-shot false hope.
Bands are estimates from historical public data, not an admission guarantee.
What counts as your category rank
Enter your JEE Advanced category rank as shown on your scorecard / JoSAA portal — not CRL unless you are OPEN. PwD variants use the matching PwD closing-rank rows.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between AIR and category rank?
All-India Rank orders everyone together. Category rank is within your reservation category. JoSAA IIT closing ranks are category-wise — enter your category rank.
How many JoSAA rounds are there?
Typically about 5–6 allocation rounds per cycle. We use the final round of each year for band computation when multiple rounds exist.
What if I do not get any college in round 1?
Later rounds often move as seats open from withdrawals and upgrades. This tool uses final-round history as a season-end reference.
Does home state matter for IITs?
IITs primarily use All-India allocation; home-state quota is mainly an NIT concept. Home state is still collected for consistency with the shared form.
Is this predictor official or affiliated with JoSAA / NTA?
No. Knwdle is not affiliated with JoSAA, NTA, or the IITs. Predictions are estimates from publicly published JoSAA OR-CR data.
How often is the data updated?
Daily at 3:00 AM IST from 1 June to 15 September (JoSAA counselling window), and weekly on Sundays at 3:00 AM IST during the rest of the year.
