This affiliated college provides a wide array of undergraduate, postgraduate and other courses in various subject areas. Spread over a small area of 5.

085 acres, this college takes an overall student strength of 404 students and managed by the hard-working faculties of 10 members only. The institution offers four different courses of study; three at the undergraduate level and one at the post graduate level in commerce, English literature, sociology, and Political Science.

It benefits the college community as the resource-rich environment offers a great support to the college by offering academic support services. As for practical needs, the institution has departmental based laboratory facilities which makes them gain practical knowledge of their departments.

The college also invests in technological development having a great IT facility that helps students make updates of the current technological innovations in their specialisations. There are different sporting amenities for a need to encourage physical exercise as well as teaming up amongst the students.

Also, embracing the concept of creativity and enlightened learning, Gitam college has formed the Literary Club and also other numerous co-curricular activities so that the students can have a feel of their interests apart from learning in the classroom. Government Arts and Science College, Tavanur has four full-time programmes for students who want to pursue arts, science or both.

The institution offers three under graduate programmes and one post graduate programme to the students with the aim of producing competent professional with comprehensive mastery in their respective fields of specialisation. The overall capacity allocation approved for all the programmes is 150 students so that our students get the attention that is often given to one student.

However, it is difficult to address how many graduates the college produced in the latest year though the college remained faithful in producing quality graduates. Admission policies at Government Arts and Science College, Tavanur are set out to be free and fair.

In admission of students in undergraduate programmes, students are required to write entrance examinations for their ability to be determined before they are selected. The college is also admitting students to B. Com Cooperation , seats 40, BA English Literature 40, and BA Sociology, 40. In direct relation, the postgraduate programme of study is the MA Political Science where 30 students enroll.
