CAT Marks Needed for Target Percentile

Work out the session standing (and optional linear marks estimate) needed for a target CAT percentile.

Educational approximation — CAT scaled-score equating is proprietary to the convenor IIM. Official percentiles appear only on the CAT scorecard.

Percentile is about relative standing in a cohort — not a fixed marks table. This helper shows the standing you need for a target percentile, plus an optional linear marks estimate clearly labeled as educational (real mark distributions are not uniform).

Max raw marks for a typical CAT paper: 198 (confirm in this year’s brochure).

How the CAT Marks Needed for Target Percentile works

Standing first, marks second

A target CAT percentile means a target relative standing in the cohort. The calculator shows how many candidates must score at/below you (NTA-style) or the worst rank that still hits the target.

The optional linear marks estimate assumes uniform distribution and is labeled educational — real papers are not linear.

About CAT

CAT is the gateway exam for IIMs and many other MBA programmes. Scores are scaled across morning/afternoon slots; a raw score in one slot is not comparable to another slot’s raw score without that year’s equating.

Source

CAT reports section-wise and overall percentiles from scaled scores after equating across slots. The exact equating model is not fully published as a student-facing closed formula. This tool uses educational rank-based percentile: 100 × (1 − (rank − 1) / N).

Frequently asked questions

Is this an official CAT calculator from IIMs (rotating convenor IIM)?

No — it is a free Knwdle helper. Methodology follows published public concepts (educational rank-based percentile) and cites sources on the page. Always trust your official scorecard.

Does this predict CAT ranks or college cutoffs?

No. We deliberately do not ship rank predictors or fake cutoffs. Percentile tools only compute transparent relative-standing maths from numbers you enter.

What is unique about CAT?

CAT is the gateway exam for IIMs and many other MBA programmes. Scores are scaled across morning/afternoon slots; a raw score in one slot is not comparable to another slot’s raw score without that year’s equating.

Why is this labeled an educational approximation?

Educational approximation — CAT scaled-score equating is proprietary to the convenor IIM. Official percentiles appear only on the CAT scorecard.

Can I change the exam date on the countdown?

Yes — the countdown date is always editable. The prefilled 2026-11-29 is an example only (Example only — CAT is typically the last Sunday of November; edit after the convenor IIM announces the date.).
