How NMMS eligibility works

Published criteria, not guesses

NMMSS: parental income ≤ ₹3.50 lakh (PIB PRID 1800307 revision; SCERT CHD 2024–25 guidelines PDF archived locally); government / government-aided / local-body schools; Class 7 marks ≥55% (50% SC/ST); fresh selection at Class 8 via state SCERT exam; apply on scholarships.gov.in after selection. Ignore stale ₹1.50 lakh text on education.gov.in/nmms.

NMMS awards about 1,00,000 fresh scholarships each year at Class IX with fixed state/UT quotas — clearing the state-conducted MAT+SAT selection test is mandatory even if you meet income and marks bars.

About National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMSS)

₹12,000 per year (₹1,000/month) from Class 9 through Class 12 after state selection — about 1,00,000 fresh scholarships nationally each year.

Income ceiling: ₹3.5 lakh — Ceiling ₹3.50 lakh per PIB PRID 1800307 (raised from ₹1.50 lakh) and SCERT Chandigarh NMMSS 2024–25 notice — both archived under docs/sources/tools-primary/. MoE education.gov.in/nmms HTML is stale at ₹1.50 lakh; prefer state SCERT / NSP notices for applications..

What this checker does

You answer the same gates listed in the guideline PDF. The result shows which bars you cleared or missed, then gives concrete next steps on the official apply portal.

Final awards, quotas, and deadlines are decided by the implementing ministry — never by this page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the NMMS income limit?

Parental income from all sources must not exceed ₹3,50,000 per annum — confirmed by PIB PRID 1800307 (ceiling raised from ₹1.50 lakh) and current state SCERT NMMSS notices. The education.gov.in/nmms HTML page still shows the old ₹1.50 lakh figure; prefer NSP / your state SCERT notice when applying.

Can private-school students apply?

No — NMMS is for students in government, government-aided, or local-body schools. Private unaided schools and many fully residential government schools (KVS/NVS/Sainik where board & lodging are government-paid) are excluded.

Is clearing the exam required if I meet income and marks?

Yes. You must qualify the state-conducted selection test (MAT + SAT). Meeting income/marks alone does not award the scholarship.

How much is the scholarship?

Selected students receive ₹12,000 per year (₹1,000/month) from Class 9 through Class 12, subject to renewal rules.

Where do I apply?

After the state exam process, applications and renewals run through the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in).
