Andhra Medical College stands as one of the most ancient medical institutions in Andhra Pradesh as well as in India. Its establishment dates back to the 19th of July, 1923. The inaugural principal was Captain F. J. Anderson, overseeing the admission of students in its inaugural year. AMC Visakhapatnam is approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
