Coimbatore Medical College was founded in 1966 and is situated in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu with the name of Coimbatore Medical College (CMC). This is a government affiliated college located over 19. 41 acres area which is famous for its medical college and health care services. CMC is NMC approved and it provides different forms of medical programmes.

The college has an overall population of students as 283, where as faculty was 233 and such population is suitable to pursue medical courses. CKMC delivers 28 courses in 5 degree programmes: MBBS, MD, MS, M. Ch, and DM in different specialisation streams in clinical medicine.

The Coimbatore Medical College has many facilities to serve its academic and health care programmes at its disposal The said college has many infrastructures to accommodate its academic and health care programmes. Students are assured of well-equipped boys and girls hostels to make their stay comfortable during their study.

Since the medical facility is located within the campus it also doubles up as a focal teaching point for the students as well as a clinic to the society. The library of CMC contains books and periodicals primarily related to medical field and helps the student and faculty members for their academic work. In order to maintain a balanced developmental approach the college provides many sporting amenities for students.

It also places great emphasis on technology with well developed IT facilities to equip the students for the new world of technology in health care. Also, alumni relations are also well developed throughout CMC with an active alumni association, as a source of support for current and future medical students/ practitioners.

Coimbatore Medical College provides number of medical courses to fulfil different needs of the health care industry. The main course in the college is the MBBS programme which enrolls 200 new students every year. Besides this, CMC offers a wide choice in post-graduate courses, 19 in MD, four in MS specialisations, four in M. Ch super specialties and four DM programmes.

These courses cover fields in medicine ranging from General Medicine , Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology , Anaesthesiology and so on. The college also has special interest courses like Emergency Medicine, Neurosurgery, Medical Oncology and is unrelenting in its bid to ensure that it provides for medical education at every front.

The admission for most the course offered in Coimbatore Medical College is very competitive as the college accepts only the best students in the country. MBBS course has been open for competition after the student cleared the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test ( NEET-UG ), a Medical entrance examination across the country.

The candidates who want to get admission postgraduate courses in MD,MS and many other higher specialisation courses are only allowed to sit for NEET-PG exam. It’s pertinent to mention that college follow up the Counselling and seat allotment as per the GOVT norms means fair chance to all students.
