Chancing our history, the Government College of Physical Education, Calicut comes into existence in 1956, specialises in physical education and sport science. A co-educational college situated in Calicut (Kozhikode), Kerala state, India, and comprising of 3 division area of land – 11. 2 sq. km. It comes under the regulatory council of the National Council for Teacher Education for quality educational programmes.

The institute provides a limited range of three full time courses at two degree levels to a total student body strength of 251. College provides experienced and skilled staffs having a faculty strength of 13 members and it also provides up to date student to teacher ratio.

Government College of Physical Education match well with the students’ requirements and contributes towards the delivery of quality education and all round development of the students. The college possesses its library where students are equipped with necessary literature in physical education and related areas.

Effective qualified IT platforms enable students to make proper connections and have access to powerful learning tools. It also facilities specialised laboratory that are used for practical practice and experiments. Sports amenities are, of course, nothing short of expectation; such afford students several possibilities to practice their talents and health trainings.

An auditorium is for conducting events such as seminars and a modem gym is a place for students to keep fit. There is provision for the students of both genders to stay in hostels so as to be comfortably accommodated in their own homes. The college also has a general hospital with a health emergency room, with the welfare of the students in mind.

The college has various clubs so as to encourage students to feel that they are part of a given society after college and the alumni association is also very vibrant. The Government College of Physical Education at Calicut offers a well defined course structure that consists of three main courses in physical education. These include the Bachelor of Physical Education (B. P. Ed) ; Master of Physical Education (M. P.

Ed) for two years full time course with fifty percent in fifteen seats. All our courses are intended to be full time, to be able to equip our students with the necessary training as well as the knowledge that they need in order to operate in a certain line of business.

Ed programme the admission is made purely on merit, weight age has been given to marks obtained in entrance test consist of sports proficiency test, physical standard test for physical fitness, mark sheets/ grade card of qualifying examination. Such a system guarantees that schools get the best brains and athletes who will be able to compete within equal measures. Admission for the M. P.

Ed programme are also based on merit with marks from the Qualifying examination and / or entrance test.
