Government Medical College Kadapa, previously known as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, is situated near Kadapa City. Initially, the hospital served as a secondary-level care facility, known as the District Hospital. Later, it was transformed into a tertiary-level care hospital and renamed Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Kadapa.
GMC Kadapa was established in 2006 and covers a vast area of 210 acres. GMC Kadapa was inaugurated on 27 September 2006 by the then UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi. This medical institute started functioning on 1 August 2006. GMC Kadapa is affiliated with Dr YSR University of Health Sciences .
