Government Nizamia Tibbi College is located in Hyderabad, and was started in the year 1938 to impart Unani medical system education. Established in 1932 as a co-educational institution in Hyderabad, across Charminar, the college has been training young future Unani practitioners for over eight decades.

It is one of the CCIM-affiliated colleges with the facility of a combination of traditional Indian knowledge and modern techniques in the field of medicine. This college has the potential to intake a total of 488 students, including faculty, with 60 in number; it has an excellent teaching environment for students who want to enter the field of alternative medicine.

The college benefits from a variety of resources aimed at improving the opportunities of the learners and the environments in which they study. A well-equipped library is indeed a pleasure house, with its vast and varied medical literature and research documents. Similarly, for students living in the hostels, there are both male and female hostels with reasonable accommodation to ensure comfort.

The college is affiliated with Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Warangal, Telangana, and approved by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) and the Ministry of Ayush, New Delhi. Government Nizamia Tibbi College has designed its curriculum of courses covering the subject of Unani medicine for both the UG and PG levels.

The college currently offers six courses in two degree programmes in a bid to ensure it delivers in-depth education in this form of medicine. At the undergraduate level, the college offers the Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery ( BUMS ), which is a full-time course of six years which is fundamental to the Unani system of medicine.

For the more specialised degree, the college offers five postgraduate courses, each of which is a three-year full-time programme which leads to the award of a Master of Medicine degree.

Among the specialised courses offered are MD Kulliyate Tib , MD Qabalat, wa Amraze Niswan , MD Ilmul Advia, MD Tahaffuziwa Samaji Tib and MD Moalajat that deal in a systematic manner with Unani medicine and its practices right from a foundational level to an advanced level of treatment. In case of the BUMS undergraduate course, the admission is strictly as per the score obtained in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) that is conducted across the country for medical entrance. This way, students coming to the programme have a good stock of the basic sciences to enable them to complete the programme successfully.

For the postgraduate courses, the college uses the All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Testknownas as AIAPGET . Candidates are tested on their understanding of medicine, and then can sit for further studies on Unani medicine on this standardised test.
