Government Unani Medical College, Chennai

The Government Unani Medical College, Chennai, It was founded in 1979 and is one of the leading institutions to train Unani medicine. It is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. M. G. R Medical University and is situated in Chennai, Tamil Nadu; it comes under the required approval from the central council for Indian Medicine(CCIM).

The college is located in the campus measuring 10 acre and is currently imparting two courses in Unani Medicine. At present there is a total enrolment of 266 students and 20 permanent faculty members to ensure a proper ambience to learning in this system of medicine. In order to support the students the Government Unani Medical College has developed a separate set of facilities that will support learning.

The college has a library with 13, 464 books on its shelf, out of which 3,694 are Unani books, 2, 172 books of modern and related medicine and 21 medical journals. There is also provision for computer with internet services and the library can comfortably take 100 students at a time. For practical training, the College is provided with the department based laboratory.

They also have an auditoria for holding various occasions like seminar, sports and recreational facilities for implementing physical activities, health center where minor injuries and ailments are attended to. The Government Unani Medical College offers two full-time courses . BUMS and degree of MD in Moalajat .

BUMS is the flagship programme of the college with an approved annual cohort size of 60 students and which takes four calendar years to complete. It is noteworthy that the Government Unani Medical College selects its students mainly through the national level tests. Thus, for the BUMS programme, the candidate must have passed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test ( NEET ).

Likewise, bending an opportunity to learn at the MD Moalajat also demands candidates to pass the All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test or AIAPGET.
