IES College of Architecture, Thrissur

IES College of Architecture, Thrissur, is an affiliated college situated in the state of Kerala in India which began in 2011. This is a co-educational institute which has been approved by the Council of Architecture, it has a concentration in Architectural Education. Occupying only 40 acres of land, the college has 193 total enrolment and 20 number of faculties.

At present, IES College of Architecture is offering only one course under the Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) which has been approved for intake of 40 students per year. The college is focused on architectural education with courses offered only to students who are interested in architecture and the necessary infrastructure created for this.

IES College of Architecture has a variety of facilities that aim at imrpoving the learning and production of its students. The library itself contains over 500 volumes of the latest editions of books on art, architecture and engineering and more than 10 national and international journals.

The following practical facilities are available to students for various trades: Model making and carpentry workshops, survey, acoustic and climatology laboratories, etc. A facility available in the campus is computer centre equipped with latest computers and internet browsing facilities. Interested people can access personalised play fields for football, cricket ground, tennis court, basketball and badminton court.

The college also has a girls’ hostel, a cafeteria, an auditorium with a sitting capacity of 1500 and a gym. Any medical complications are dealt with by a first aid station available in the compound while the college is near Amala Medical College hospital in case a complicated medical condition requires professional attention is experienced.

IES College of Architecture, Thrissur, focuses solely on architectural education, offering a single full-time course, the B. Arch programme (Bachelor of Architecture). The programme is a five-year degree programme with an approved intake of forty (40) students per academic year out of a total students’ capacity of one hundred and ninety-three (193) students in the entire college. The B.

Arch programme utilised in this study aims at producing well rounded architectures with knowledge and capacities in architectural design, theory and practice in order to satisfy the needs of the society. IES College of Architecture, Thrissur, makes admission based on the national level written tests that are organised by the University.

Candidates seeking admission into the college must sit for either the NATA or the JEE Main Paper 2 for architecture. A qualifying grade in NATA is a requirement for admission to the University. Both these exams are accepted by the college, for the convenience of students who want to become architects.
