Pondicherry Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (PIHMCT) was founded in 1991 and is an affiliated college in Pondicherry, India. The university with which PIHMCT is associated is Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. It offers postgraduate and graduate degree in Hotel Management and Hospitality.

It is recognised by the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT). Located in a 4. 5 acre campus, PIHMCT has a total student enrolment of 141 with a faculty of only 5 members. At present, the institute is covering total 4 courses at two types of degree levels and these are B. Sc. full time course and three are dipoma course full time.

Amenities found in the compound of PIHMCT are intended to complement the academic teachings, growth and development of the students. Hostel facilities include neatly built hostels with proper amenities, electricity, and water supply and ample quality nutritious food. A large dining hall offers different dishes and is always clean.

The institute also has an auditorium which is well equipped with all the basic needs and essential facilities and host seminar, conference, workshops and cultural programmes etc. Most of the books placed in the library are curriculum books, magazines, journals and periodicals aiming at improving the students’ academic activities.

There is electronic and computerisation of laboratories, a computer centre with internet connectivity helps in practical knowledge as well as experimental works. The gymnasiums are part of the school to make sure that students find balance between studies and sports. Also, guest rooms are arranged as a part of the basic equipment of a faculty and for families of students.

The institute is in the full time mode with a total of four courses – one undergraduate and three diploma programmes. The B. Sc is in Hospitality and Hotel Administration is the flagship undergraduate programme and the diploma programmes offer specialisations in Food Production , Housekeeping, and Food and Beverage Service . The total admission student for all courses is 145, B.

The B. Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration can be obtained through passing through the National Council for Hotel Management Joint Entrance Examination ( NCHM JEE ).

This examination is mandatory at the national level for potential students as an entrance exam. On the other hand, the admissions to the diploma programmes are given based on the merit of the students according to the aggregate of marks secured in the qualifying examination.

Performing admission to these various programmes, the institute has some admission procedures which are followed to make sure that deserving candidates are enlisted for the various programmes offered at the institute.
