Sankaralingam Bhuvaneswari College of Pharmacy (SBCP) is one of the reputed colleges situated at Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. This college was established in 1988. This co-educational college, established in 1998 and located on 27 acres of land, is focused on the pharmaceutical field. Recognised by PCI, SBCP has various pharmacy programs under its purview at different levels.
The college currently has a student enrollment of 363 students and a qualified faculty of 26 teachers, thereby ensuring a reasonable student-to-teacher ratio. SBCP offers six courses across four degree levels, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph. D programs in pharmacy that can cater to specific specialization areas.
The college also provides various functional facilities that may help to improve the learning process and individual students’ valuable characteristics. This also has individual hostels for boys and girls with separate messes, whose specialty is healthy and hygienically prepared meals.
The college has a dispensary that operates around the clock, staffed with resident Medical Officers to attend to the health needs of the college community. The library also acts as an information centre of the school, besides the different sporting amenities such as a fine-tuned athletic track for track and field activities.
Similarly, technological promotion is considered important to SBCP since it boasts of good IT and campus-wide WIFI. For academic activities, the college boasts of well-equipped laboratories suitable for various departments at the college. Other facilities like the cafeteria, auditorium, and guest house make the college atmosphere quite comfortable.
This commitment is reaffirmed through SBCP’s curriculum, which contains every course needed by students in a pharmacy school. It offers 6 full-time courses in which there are two undergraduate courses ( B. Pharma and D. Pharma), three post-graduate courses ( M. Pharma in Pharmaceutics , Pharmaceutical Analysis, and Pharmacology ), and one doctorate course in Pharmacy.
The intake capacity of the college is 120 approved seats for all undergraduate courses, which are equally divided between the B. Pharma and D. Pharma programmes. Concerning postgraduate and doctoral intake numbers, these are not given; however, these courses provide specialisation in various areas of the pharmaceutical sciences.
The college has 256 students in total, 247 of whom are taking undergraduate programs, while 9 are postgraduate students. In this College, students are admitted through their performance in ‘O’ Level and passing the THST, and the method of admittance adopted by the College of Pharmacy is quite simple and based on merit.
Although details relating to the entrance examination are not given special mention, the college must factor performance in relevant subjects into its common undergraduate admission requirements. To pursue postgraduate and doctorate programs, one might even need to prove oneself academically or as a researcher. Unfortunately, SBCP only represented program diversity, and there was no equity by gender among students.
Notably, in 2023, there were no more out-of-state students among the enrolled students, identifying the college’s strong appeal to the state. The institution also has an active Alumni Association, which was formed in 1991 to help create a union of aged alumni so as to help the current students.
Unfortunately, specific information with regards to scholarships offered is unclear for this college; however, the college must provide special assistance in terms of funds to brilliant individuals who wish to pursue pharmacy from the college.
