Smt. Urmila Devi Ayurvedic College of Medical Sciences and Hospital is situated in Kharkan, Punjab and was started in 2002. This affiliated college is CCIM: Central Council for Indian Medicine & it imparts education in Ayurveda only. At present, the institute is in a 10 acres campus with 340 students and 29 faculty members.
The college is co-educational and it offers one degree only with only one specialization in Ayurvedic medicine. BCA has a dedicated passion towards Ayurvedic practices to transform society’s healthcare needs and the institute has devised a course that will churn out professional Ayurvedic healers skilled in the practice of the ancient science of healing.
The college has ample amenities to enhance the students’ academic as well as their other aspects of development. It has hundred bedded hospital for training purpose for students and also for the hospital needs of the community. It has a large, well-organized collection of Ayurveda literature, book masters, journals, newspapers etc.
The college has well equipped pathological laboratories for clinical and pathological testing technologically developed unit. To cater the need of students, the campus facilities are providedhostels for boys and girls, canteen, auditorium for edutraining programs & sports. Urmila Devi Ayurvedic College of Medical Sciences and Hospital offers one full-time course: remedial courses primarily being the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) . This program has an intake approval of 100, making it to the list of total students’ intake of the institute 340.
The BAMS course is of a total of 6 years, during which the programme aims at imparting knowledge of both Ayurvedic system of medicine along with the modern medical sciences. NEET qualifiers only are allowed to apply as per the requirement of the Medical Council of India. 85% of the seats are reserved for the candidates from Punjab and rest 15% seats for candidates from the other states and Union Territories of India. The candidate should possess minimum NEET percentile of fifty for the particular year to qualify for enrollment in the course.
