University School of Biotechnology Delhi was established in the year 1999 as a constituent College under Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. Sited in Dwarka, Delhi in Sectors 16C, this institution is involved in offering and disseminating biotechnology programmes . While rank data is missing, the fact that the school provides focus on biotechnology makes it a player in this emerging important field.

Currently, the school has 13 highly qualified staff dedicated to providing instructions in undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels in biotechnology programmes for students who are inclined in the field. Being a young University, University School of Biotechnology aim at ensuring that students gain the necessary essential facilities needed in their educational experience.

The college has a well stocked library which functions as an information centre for the learning community of the institution. Further, the school provides prospective and current students with departmental laboratories important for practical lessons and research activities in biotechnology. Such modern structures help students to acquire knowledge and skills needed during their further practice.

The institution also has an effective alumni association to give its students a network of connecting to fellow alumni who are now employees to some organisations where a student could be lucky to be placed to do an internship if need be. Concerning the course offer, the University School of Biotechnology offers an extensive yet specialised prescription of academic education in the biotechnology domain.

The institute offers three programmes : Programmes offered include B. Tech in Biotechnology , M. Tech in Biotechnology, Ph. D in Biotechnology, B. Tech- M. Tech Biotechnology with a focus on the main biotechnology sectors: therapeutic and diagnostic products, agricultural products, chemicals and materials, and energy/environmental products. The B.

Tech programme which constitutes the major part of Under graduate programme is of 45 intakes and it proves the calss size management’s concern to prevent the quality of education being compromised by in take of large intakes.

Although separate figures for the intake of postgraduate and doctoral students are missing, these barns are for the students who desire to have specialisation in biotechnology research and implementation. Consequently, the admission process particularly for the University School of Biotechnology is such that students with high aptitudes toward Biotechnology should be allowed. For the B. Tech.

programme the school accepts GATE scores which is a national level examination for engineering students. This makes certain that the students who transfer to the university have adequate background in basic sciences and engineering core competencies for competitiveness in biotechnology industry.
