Item 2

Understand the result

Points: earned / possible x 100. Weighted: sum((earned / possible) x weight).

Worked example

Assignments 175/200 and tests 240/300 give 415/500 x 100 = 83%.

Letter thresholds depend on your school. Weights must total 100% unless you explicitly choose to normalize them.

Your result and calculation steps will appear here.

How to use the grade calculator

Each block explains one part of how this works and how to read the result.

  1. Choose your method and enter inputs

Calculate grades from points, weighted assignments or category totals, with an editable letter scale.

Choose the calculation mode or grading scale, then replace the example inputs with your own values. Check the credits, weights or selected scoring profile before calculating.

  2. Formula and methodology

    Points: earned / possible x 100. Weighted: sum((earned / possible) x weight).

The calculation breakdown lists what was counted and which rules were applied. Data-backed results identify their source and version; changing inputs clears a previous result so it cannot be mistaken for a new calculation.

  3. Worked example

    Assignments 175/200 and tests 240/300 give 415/500 x 100 = 83%.

  4. Assumptions and limitations

Letter thresholds depend on your school. Weights must total 100% unless you explicitly choose to normalize them.

Check the result's method and linked source. A practice profile or planning estimate should be interpreted within its stated assumptions.

Frequently asked questions

How does the grade calculator calculate its result?

Points: earned / possible x 100. Weighted: sum((earned / possible) x weight).

Can I use this without an account?

Yes. The tool is free and does not require a login. Financial worksheets calculate in your browser; DOI metadata is retrieved from Crossref.

What assumptions should I check?

Letter thresholds depend on your school. Weights must total 100% unless you explicitly choose to normalize them.

Can I access the same calculation through an API?

Yes. Use /api/tools/grade-calculator. Structured arrays and financial inputs use a JSON POST body. The API returns calculation steps and source provenance.

Developer API

POST JSON to /api/tools/grade-calculator. The browser and API share the same deterministic engine. Financial inputs use POST only and responses are not cached. The service does not store your financial inputs.

Response fields: title, value, metrics, steps, rows, warnings, provenance. Citation responses also include normalized metadata and in-text citations.
