Centre for Studies in Social Sciences Calcutta, was founded in February 1973 and is primarily funded by matching grants from the ICSSR and the Government of West Bengal. CSSSC academic and administrative matters are overseen by a Board of Governors, including representatives from the Central and State government, the ICSSR, the UGC, West Bengal universities, and the Centre’s faculty.

Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta admission combines proposal screening, a written test (exempting national test qualifiers UGC NET /CSIR-NET/SET/ GATE /CEED/ GPAT ), and interview performance for PhD candidates, while admission to the Research Training Programme (RTP) is based on the Statement of Purpose, writing sample, Master’s marks, and interview.
