Centre for Studies in Social Science Calcutta admissions are offered to doctoral courses in the field of Social Sciences. D Admission Procedure PhD proposals are first screened to assess their alignment with the advertised faculty specialisations and the availability of supervisors before candidates are shortlisted for the admission test and interview. All eligible candidates, including those with a two-year M. Phil. degree or equivalent from an Indian institution, must appear for a written admission test.
Only those who qualify in the test will be called for the interview. General category candidates must obtain at least 10 out of 20 marks in the written test to qualify for the interview.
A relaxation of 5% marks is allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PwD/EWS categories, as per government rules. The written test consists of two essay-type questions of equal weight. One question assesses knowledge of research methodology, and the other is discipline-specific. For Economics applicants, both questions emphasise mathematical economics.
