Ibotombi Institute of Education, Manipur, which was set up in 2014 is one of the premier education institutions located in the centre of Manipur. This affiliated college is situated at Canchipur and has been approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), which clearly indicates its aim for providing quality education for the teachers. 62 acre, it mainly provides a concentrated atmosphere for pedagogy education. A total of 298 students are enrolled in the institute, and the institute has only 20 members in the faculty, which keeps the environment of the institute academic, friendly, and competitive. Ibotombi Institute of Education is proud to provide a large number of facilities that can improve the learning processes of the institute’s students. A well-equipped library has more than 3000 books and 12 Hindi/Foreign journals which helps students to do their research and academic work. The library also has a reading room that can contain 40 students and is very useful for carrying out studies.

The sports lovers will find enough grounds to practise different kinds of sports, and everybody can attend events and seminars at the auditorium. It also has classy information technology facilities, so students are able to equip themselves for the new world.

Such facilities include a departmental laboratory, canteen, guest house, transport facility, and a health section with first aid facilities, which also complements the life of a campus. Gerard Ibotombi Institute of Education has offered two one-year full-time courses since the year 1995-96 which are in touch with different facets of the teacher education course. The B.

Ed programme is the Liberal Course for an intake of one hundred students that prepares graduates for teaching in secondary schools. The 50 seat capacity Diploma in Elementary Education ( D. El. Ed. ) programme is designed to train teachers for primary education.

Both programmes take two years to complete and expose the students to both the practical application of teaching skills and the knowledge content of educational theories. As of this year, the institute teaches about 150 students in the two programmes, testimony to its selective admission policy for teachers.

The admission criteria adopted by Ibotombi Institute of Education involve students scoring marks obtained in the examination and/orentrance tests. Admission policies of the state government, UT administration, and the affiliated university are considered for the B. Ed programme. The D. El.

Ed programme also basically works in the same pattern, but it follows the rules and regulations of the particular state government/UT administration. This way we are assured of enlisting the right students who meet the institute’s standards and expectations of high performance.
