Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies, Bhopal, is a state university that was founded in 2013 and is focused on the Buddhist and Indic cultures study. Based in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, this is an innovative University that teaches a wide variety of subjects in Buddhism, Indian philosophy, languages, and Yogic sciences & holistic health.

It is recognized by the university Grants Commission (UGC) and it occupies a 120 acres of land, although, at the moment it has 99 students. Currently, Sanchi University offers 60 credit courses spread over seven degree programs The university specializes in fields of Buddhist Studies, Sanskrit, Vedic Studies, Yogic Sciences, Indian Painting etc.

It has a faculty of twelve members in the institution to facilitate one on one interaction with the students offered in various academic programs. The university provides planned services with the badge of improvement of the student experience. Some of those amenities include admission offices, boys and girls hostels, lecture halls, laboratories, libraries, and other facilities.

Some of these hostels include mess facilities, recreation rooms and Internet connection which is in the form of Wi-Fi. Phil, PhD Level courses etc. Major courses offered in some of the schools of the university include master of Arts in Buddhist Studies, Hindi, Sanskrit, Vedic Studies, English, and Yoga and Holistic Health. The university also has other specializations such as Masters in Fine Art-Indian Painting and Masters in Chinese language.

For those who want to indulge more in research activities, they can take their masters in several courses leading to the award of M. Phil and Ph. D. The number of students admitted depends on the course of study, although most of the Master’s programmes have a carrying capacity of 25 students while research programmes have few spaces.

In the last academic year, the total number of student enrolment across all programmes of the university was 99. From the admission process it is clear that Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies wants to get devoted and facilitated students to the Buddhism and Indic studies.

For most Master’s programs, a candidate is admitted based on the academic record of the candidate and performance in the subject at the undergraduate level. Some research programs especially the PhD programs exposes the candidates to a written examination to be followed by a viva-voice. Nevertheless, the foreign and NRI students can appear directly for the interview of the Ph. D.

programs without having to write the written entrance test. However, the university keeps its door open for students from any field of study provided one applies for the specific course he or she wants to pursue. For example, in the Ph. D. in Indian Painting, candidates holding M. F. A and Sculpture and Pottery Graphics Textile Painting M. A in History of Arts or Museology are acceptable.
