School of Unani Medical Education and Research (SUMER), Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, specializing in Unani medicine, was established in the year 1906. This institution is part of large Jamia Hamdard campus, a prestigious university that is accredited by the NAAC with an 'A' grade and is also approved by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM).

The SUMER stands on a 3-acre campus and has a student strength of 192 aspirants with a faculty count of 35 members. Multiple facilities are provided that can promote academic development as well as personal development. The SUMER provides both Male and female hostels for comfortable accommodation of students enrolled in M. D. programmes.

It is a well-equipped library collection of books related to the subject, Journals, Back Volumes of CCRH publications, newspapers, etc. An auditorium, situated on campus, provides avenues for events and seminars. The SUMER also emphasises useful integration with excellent IT infrastructure and has VPN connectivity and video conferencing facilities.

The college provides a canteen, an in-house kitchen, a power laundry, ambulance services, mortuary and Incinerator, along with the hospital, which has an inpatient department (IPD) that provides treatment for various psychiatric and general health conditions, so that students are taken care of in all aspects of education.

School of Unani Medical Education and Research (SUMER), Jamia Hamdard, an affiliated college of college, offers two degree programs and four courses, providing a complete education in Unani medicine, from undergraduate to doctoral levels. The flagship program is the Kamil-e-Tibb-o-Jarahat (BUMS) , a bachelor's degree in Unani medicine and surgery. The school also offers a MD (Unani) postgraduate program.

A main aspect of its curriculum is its direct association with the Majeedia Unani Hospital, a 100-bed teaching hospital. This provides students with hands-on clinical training and access to specialized Unani treatments, such as Hijamah (cupping therapy) and Taleeq (leech therapy).

The All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET) is the entrance exam for admission into School of Unani Medical Education and Research. It has a fair and comprehensive admission process. The college is National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) -approved.
