Sri Shambulingeshwara College of Physical Education, Mandya

Sri Shambulingeshwara College of Physical Education is a college established for physical education in Mandya, Karnataka. This college came into existence in the year 2005 is co-educational in nature NCTE approve college affiliated to the University. Located on a small land area of 5 acres, the college provides two academic majors in physical education.

A total intake of students per course is 35 and with 13 members in the faculty makes facilities specific and exclusive. The institution offers the course in physical education at the undergraduate and postgraduate level to demonstrate the college’s commitment to the sub-sector. It has several infrastructures which can be of as favourable environment for students’ academic and physical activities.

A well-equipped library contains 6479 books, journals,magazine related to education and physical Education. Facilities include Biology, Physics, Chemistry, human Physiology, Psychology and Sports Science laboratories among others.

For training, Sri Shambulingeshwara College of Physical Education has a 200-meter track, places for jumps and throws, various playing fields, gym, stairs and beam for gymnastics, a gym, etc. It also has separate hostels to accommodate the students, male as well as female student’s hostels making the accommodation of the students comfortable for those who prefer to live in the campus.

In addition, a regularly designed administrative office complex, there are infrastructural facilities such as transport facilities, an auditorium wanted for events and seminars, health centre including first aid facilities, canteen, and guest house for faculty and family members respectively.

Sri Shambulingeshwara College of Physical Education offers two full-time courses , Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) and Master of Physical Education (MPEd). The Bachelor of Physical Education ( B. P. Ed ) programme is also designed for 100 seats and the Master of Physical Education (M. P. Ed) for 40 seats. Each of these programmes is intended to take a period of two years to complete.

These specialised courses are offered at the college level and the specialty of the college is evident from choosing these courses to input well-trained professionals in physical education. Sri Shambulingeshwara College of Physical Education gives admission to its courses strictly on the basis of merit and in pursuance to the norms frame by state government as well as affiliate university. As for B. P.

Ed programme, it has an entrance examination in which students must take written test, sports proficiency tests, physical fitness test and the marks in the qualifying examination. Candidates for the M. P. Ed programme have to go through a written test, fitness test, interview as well as their percentage in the qualifying test.

Such complex set of selection procedures guarantees that the college enrols learners who are academically fit, healthy and motivated to pursue a career in physical education.
