The future of education is embodied in the young Teachers Training College in Murshidabad, West Bengal, known as Tarifa Memorial Teachers Training College. Situated on a compact 0. 76-acre campus, the college offers two specialised courses: B. Ed. and D. El. Ed.
Currently, the college has a total of 300 students and a faculty of 27, which is appropriate since it prepares teachers for the future. Recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education right from 2002, Tarifa Memorial Teachers Training College aspires to promote quality teacher education. The Diploma in Elementary Education (D. El.
Ed) having an intake capacity of 50 students, aims to produce teachers for teaching at the Primary level. Both of them are two-year programmes offering extensive theoretical and practical education in teaching methodologies. These two programmes offer a total of 150 students in the college, showing the concentration of the college in offering teachers.
In admission policies at Tarifa Memorial Teachers Training College, the admission criteria are strictly on merit, and there is no prejudice at all. For admission to the B. Ed programme, selection is done either on merit in the qualifying examination /entrance test. Such criteria may also include other criteria of selection as may be set by the policies of the state government and the affiliated university.
Similarly, for the D. El. Ed programme, herein merit-based student admission will be given with the marks obtained in the qualifying examination/or entrance test according to the rules and regulations framed by the state government/ UT administration.
