West Guwahati College of Education was established in 1992. It is one among the best teacher training institutions in Guwahati, Assam. Being a co-educational institution, it is among the affiliated colleges under the NCTE. Based at Templeghat, Pandu, this educational institution imparts professional education courses to aspiring teachers. The faculty strength of this college consists of 17 devoted educators. B.

Major courses are taught here, apart from D. El. Ed and B. Ed, which are both two-year, full-time programmes. The institutions have fully equipped and supported it for a better teaching-learning environment for students to progress in their own endeavours. The library is the support area of the academic hub, well equipped with almost 4800 numbers of textbooks and reference texts.

Besides, this hub is subscribed to over 20 varieties of distinct types of educational journals too. It has a well-spaced reading room with a seating capacity of 60, which helps generate an atmosphere for study and research.

Another salient feature of this institution is the psychology laboratory, which is well equipped with modern apparatus and equipment like memory drums, performance tests (Bhatia Battery), and stopwatches. This enables students to undergo practical work in the field of psychological testing and analysis. At present, West Guwahati College of Education is running two major courses in education. The B. Ed.

intake capacity is 100, and the D. El. Ed. intake capacity is 50. Both the programmes are full-time and of two years' duration. The programmes have been planned so that students can be prepared with the required skills and knowledge to work effectively as educators at any level of the education system.
