Credit-weighted grade-point shift
Only the backlog subject’s credits change grade point — every other credit stays as already reflected in your current CGPA. The shift in CGPA equals the change in that one subject’s grade point, scaled by its credit share of your total credits.
Frequently asked questions
What grade point should I use for "old"?
Most universities record a failed/backlog subject as 0 grade points until cleared — check your own transcript rule, as some use a different placeholder.
What if I have multiple backlogs?
Run this once per subject and add up the shifts, or use the combined credits if all backlog subjects share the same old/new grade points.
Does this replace my university’s own rule?
No — some universities recompute differently (e.g. capping or averaging). Treat this as a close estimate and confirm against your official grade card.
Can CGPA go down?
Only if your new grade point is lower than the old one, which is unusual for a backlog clearance but the calculator handles it either way.
