SGHS College of Nursing, Mohali

SGHS College of Nursing, Mohali was started in the year 1993 and is one of the leading college in Punjab which is imparting nursing education. This co-educational College is situated in sector 77, Sohana, Mohali and it is affiliated with PU and approved by INC. Located on a massive 8 acre campus, SGHS College of Nursing is a premier center for nursing education.

The college has a total student intake of 320 students and 34 faculties along with professional and trained staff to focus on the quality education for each student. At present, the institute has three full nursing programmes for learners, which include two degree courses and one diploma course to meet the requirement of learners for different levels of nursing.

To enhance academic achievements and personal development of the students’ SGHS College of Nursing has equipped several facilities. The campus has well equipped laboratories that offer practical sessions considered important in nursing course. A library that is well stocked is well equipped with all sorts of information resources for facilitating student’s learning process.

In a bid to enhance student comfort, the college has adopted to have two different hostels for boys and girls respectively. The infrastructural resource available on campus include a health centre that has the first aid facilities to handle short time ailments.

For a comprehensive development perspective, SGHS College of Nursing has brought into practice games and sports facilities so as to cultivate a capable sporting system in parallel of their academic endeavours. The college also has an auditorium for purposes of events and seminars, thereby boosting social life on college.

Other facilities include, Information Technology facilities, A canteen and transport facilities thus making students have a noble experience. Nursing School of SGHS College of Nursing offers an interesting and limited number of nursing courses to address the current need for professional nurses. The institute provides three full-time courses : The programmes are named as B. Sc Nursing (four years), Post Basic B.

Sc Nursing (Two years), and General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) which is of Three years duration. Such programmes are intended to provide the students with complete theoretical knowledge supplemented with practical experience necessary for a proper nursing practice. In total the college has been granted permission for 120 students to be intake for any of the courses offered, there are 50 for B.

Sc Nursing, 30 for Post Basic B. Sc Nursing and 40 for GNM. This planned intake also helps the school in proper use of resources available as well as the rationalisation of student teacher ratio as some of the factors that determine quality of education.

The admission process of SGHS College of Nursing like any other admission process of Malaysia is complete, objective and selective in a way that the college tries its best to get the right candidates for the nursing course.
